Dear teacher,
can you help me with this problem? It seems easy but when I study it carefully, I become puzzled.
I dont know what time it was ______ I fell asleep last night?
A. that B. when C. before D. since
At first sight I choose A, but later I think If we choose A, it should be at what time not what time. But If we are asked to ask questions according the underlined part , how do we change this sentence I fell asleep at six last night. ? We will say What time did I fall asleep last night? Then emphasize what time well have what time was it that I fell asleep last night? Then how about this sentence It was six when I fell asleep last night? How to ask questions according to the underlined part? So I dont know whether to choose A or B.
Thank you! |

Dear puzzle, To me, 'when' (B) is the right word to use in your sentence. 'When' is the conjunction to use in a dependent clause, relating to an independent clause that deals with time, concurrently. I hope you can understand those big words. But that's how I see it. Ok?-- Eric |
