In conclusion, scientists in many fields find themselves helpless when it comes to controlling the application of the technology they have labored so hard to produce and to solve the problems they have created |
in this sentence, I think "solving" should be used instead of "solve", because the clause "solve the problems they have created" works as an object.
Could you advise if I'm correct or not? |

I agree with you.
When it comes to controlling the application and solving the problems they have created, scientists in many fields find themselves helpless. _________________ I'm never going to learn if you don't correct my mistakes! |
