Hello, teachers!!
(1) Are you going somewhere for the holidays?
(2) Are you going anywhere for the holidays?
Do you have any differences between (1) and (2)?
Thank you in advance. |

Are there any differences? Yes, but they are not very significant.
When we use some we infer that we expect an affirmative answer.
You see smoke and you ask: Is something burning?
The report that you asked your assistant to finish is still sitting on his desk and you ask him: Have you done anything this morning?
That's one reason why offering with any is considered less polite or less sincere.
Would you like something to eat? _________________ I'm never going to learn if you don't correct my mistakes! |

Taking your invitation to correct errors, My Prof, don't you mean imply rather than infer? _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
