How should I pronounce the following dates?

Thank you for your letter of 6 Sep. ( the Sixth of September or Six September?)
Thank you for you letter of Sep 6. ( September Six, September Sixth or September the Sixth?)
Thank you for you letter of 6th Sep. ( the Sixth September or the Sixth of September?)

If I were reading these things out loud to someone, I would read them just as written, just for the sake of accuracy. So I would say:

Thank you for your letter of six September.

Thank you for you letter of September six.

Thank you for you letter of sixth September.

However, in just speaking to someone, I would say, "Thank you for your letter of September the sixth / of the sixth of September."

An ordinary date, September 6, 2007, comes out as "September the sixth, 2007" in ordinary speech.
