Dear Teachers, please explain the underscored parts below.

"put her arms about him" means "put her arms around him," i.e., held him in her arms or at least gave him a hug.
"went barefoot" means she went without shoes, didn't spend money on shoes (and probably other necessities) so that she could use the money for his music lessons. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
