Hello teacher, I read a sentence from the news
"The troops called in airstrikes during a battle"
Is "call in" a phrase? and what it means?
cause I can't look it up in the dictionary.

This is another one, ``kick-start'', I also can't understand
the true meaning.

Thank you very much!

Call in is a phrasal verb which means to request or order someone to come.

Kick start or jump start is to do something to force, encourage or cause something to happen.

Helmet,
this website might be useful for you: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/

There you can search for phrasal verbs like "call in" in a much easier way.

"Kick start" probably came about from the way motorcycles were started years ago. Today I think you just start them with a key, like you do with a car.
