This is a question from a TOEFL test. A teacher told me that the correct answer is (D), but (C) seems correct to me. Could you please tell me why (C) is incorrect?
By studying fossils, paleontologists learn ( ) forms of life thrived during various periods of the Earth's history.

(C) is not correct because the grammar would not be correct. For (C) to be correct, the sentence would have to be 'By studying fossils, paleontologists learn about the forms of life that thrived........'.
And the meaning would be different from (D). |
