Hi,teacher!

I heard this line in the American TV sitcom,"Friends".

Ross tried so hard to get along with his pet monkey,but the monkey didn't care.And Ross said, "I tried so hard...I did everything for him...but he's just phoning it in."

...What does this "phone it in" mean????

Please help me!
