Dear members
What does "chastening" means here, please?
Allens course, which has married 1,200 students since its inception five years ago, is widely endorsed [backed, supported ?] by parents and students. Some of the participants have found the experience chastening to their real-life marital plans.
Many thanks,

| It means it has a restraining or demoralising effect. |
