I missed checking the mailbox for a few days.

Which do you think when you read the sentence above?

(1) ordinary mailbox outside the home
(2) e-mail box

I think of a mailbox for my house for real letters. Not e-mail. For that I might say, "I missed checking my e-mail for a few days and now the inbox is full of spam."
