Please comment on my sentence, don`t just correct it:


If we are woken up at night our periods of repose are interrupted

Is "period of repose" ok?

Grammatically, it's fine. But I don't like it because a period of repose is a period of lying down to rest. It does not necessarily involve sleeping. If one is resting, but not sleeping, then "woken up" does not apply. Also, to substitute "sleep" with "periods of repose" sounds a bit pretentious.
