I'm still wondering what it means because 'visit her' in your reply makes me confused. In my example there is no clue for 'visit her' at all. Please be more specific!

"Go for the weekend" by itself means that you will be somewhere other than your home for the weekend. Think of it as "go away for the weekend." Often it will mean that you are visiting somene, but it could mean that you are visiting a city (e.g., staying at a hotel) or maybe attending an event (e.g., a weekend-long music festival).
