Dear teachers,
Can you tell me the tense in the clause introduced by "as"?
which to choose in the following exercise:
Women prefer to think and then speak, while men like to speak as they ______.
A. think B. have thought C. thought D. are thinking
I'd prefer to choose "A" but the answer is" D".
Thank you! |

I don't see anything wrong with using the simple present tense (A) there, or with using the present continuous (D). It's just a matter of the speaker's imagining the situation (a simple instance of thinking vs. the process of thinking). But in the end they both mean the same thing. |
