Hi,

Could anyone give me a brief explanation about the difference between drama and comedy when talking about different kinds of movies?
Thank you so much!

A drama is a serious story involving one or more conflicts and how they are resolved or not resolved. "No Country for Old Men" was a very good 2007 drama about good and evil, and shades of gray, choices and consequences.

A comedy is not serious, and in fact the point is to crack the audience up as much as possible. There still may be conflict and all that, but usually that is secondary to the humor. "Blades of Glory" was a hilarious 2007 movie about two men figure skaters who are banned from skating when they have a fight on the ice at a competition. They discover a loophole in the rules, however, and decide to skate together as the first two-man pairs skating team. It is really funny.

Thank you so much, CP, for answering my question.
By the way, could you explain a little bit more the phrase "shades of gray"? as far as I know, it's the name of a book, and also a movie, but the movie was regarded as a comedy, see below quote

"Blades of Glory" is a funny movie, I agree with you. But whenever I think of it, I think of the scene in which the Korean skater was beheaded by the blade, that was really scary.
