1. With such a small military presence, South Korea's involvement has become purely symbolic and political; it is just enough to show the United States that Korea is still its ally, small enough that the dissenting voices at home will be appeased, but not enough that the Korean unit can do any significant good for the Iraqis who really need help.

I saw #1 in some Korean English newspaper. Is #1 correct?
I think that #2 is rather correct than #1.
1).If I'm wrong, can you explain the way 'be enough + that clause' in #1 is used in English?
2).Could you paraphrase #1 for me?
Thanks. |

Actually, I agree with #2, but we may need some help from native English speakers due to my limitted ability in English. Sorry! |

Because South Korea is symbolic and political to deploy a small military there, which merely shows it(South Korea) is still the ally of the united states, and such a symbolic and political participation is small enough for the opposite voices at home to be able to be comforted, but it(such a ... participation=the korean unit) is not enough for South Korea to do any significant good for the Iragis who really need help.
With such a small military presence, South Korea's involvement has become purely symbolic and political; it is just enough to show the united states that korea is still its ally, (and it is) small enough (so) that the dissenting voices at home will be appeased, but (it is) not enough (so) that the Korean unit can do any significant good for the Iragis who really need help.
it might mean With such a small military presence, South Korea's...political.
BTW, I'm not familiar with how to quote. Could you teach me? |

Hi, let me tell you how to use 'Quote'
First, place the prompt in front of the place where you want to use Quote. [for your further understanding: the meaning of prompt: a blinking sign on a computer screen which shows that the computer has finished one operation and is ready to begin the next]
Second, click Quot* from the menu, then a Quot mark will be displayed in front of the place where you are ready to quote.
Third, type the words which you want to quote.
Lastly, as soon as you finish your typing, again click Quote* from the menu. Then again a Quot mark will be marked after the last quoted word on the screen. So you can get your quoted part successfully.
I wish you good luck. |
