Dear Sirs,
Need help A.S.A.P.
1. I remember mailing the letter.
This sentence means I mailed the letter, and I do remember that.
Right?
2. I remembered to mail the letter.
Means I didn't mail the letter, and I remember(or remembered) to do that later.
My question is :
Are there any differences between remember and remembered?
If yes, what's the difference?
Another question is :
I remembered ________ my umbrella, so I didn't get wet.
Which one should I fill in, to bring or bringing?
Thanks! Katherine |

Yes. It means you remember the action of mailing the letter.

No. This means you were supposed to mail the letter, and you did not forget to do it. You were successful, and remembered to do it.

The difference is not between "remember" and "remembered." The difference in your examples was between "remember Verb + ing" and "remember to + Verb".
Most of the time, we use "remember to verb" because that has the meaning of remembering to do something. (I remembered to take my umbrella, so I didn't get wet.)
The other use is much less common. For example:
"I remember the last vacation we took. It was such a wonderful holiday. I remember walking along the beach and watching the ducks play." Here, the person remembers an activity that he did in the past. |
