Wild boars in this area are decreasing (in number) by excessive hunting.
Is "in number" needed or prefarable or unnecessary?

1...Say '...decreasing due to excessive hunting'.
2...I think it is preferable. Because of the presence of the "excessive hunting" phrase, people will assume you are talking about the number of wild boars. However, the sentence sounds a bit incomplete without "in number". |
