Hi Everybody,
could you please explain why in the following examples one time we drop the 'e' and the second we don't? Both 's' and 'y' are consonants.
nose > nosing
eye > eyeing

I think it is just to make clear to the reader that the verb to eye is what is meant. Without the e, it would be eying, which wouldn't be pronounced correctly right away and wouldn't obviously be the present participle, or the present progressive, of to eye. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
