If this had happened on one of the days that Linda didn't pick Josh up, she would have been lying there for over an hour beforing being found and could have died.

Could you paraphrase this sentence?

If your employees associate you with fear, they will become less functional around you and you will have succeeded in not only shooting yourself in the foot, but possibly making a good worker unable to work effectively.

What does "shoot yourself in the foot" mean?

Hello Jasonlulu 2000 -

a) Linda evidently had a serious accident of some sort.

Due to the fact that it happened on a day she was scheduled to be

somewhere at a specific time (ie. bring her son home after school)....

someone was concerned when she did not arrive and went to check on

her.

'Had it happened on one of the days' she wasn't scheduled to be there...

no one would have been alerted and she may well have gone

unattended and perhaps died.

b) 'shoot yourself in the foot' --> an action which causes one to be

unsucessful at achieving a desired result/goal
