I am watching a show called Cashmere Mafia in which something I don't get.

Here is the context:

An editor tells the publisher:"When I refused to do a Jennifer Aniston cover, the chief editor threw a water bottle on me!"

"She does fly off the newsstands." answers the publisher.

Dear teachers, what does fly off the newsstands mean here?

Thanks in advance

It's a fairly recent expression. When something sells really well, you can say that it is flying off the shelves. For a magazine that sells well, you can say that it is flying off the news stands / off the news-stand shelves. News stands or newsstands are little kiosks that sell newspapers and magazines.

So this just means that magazines with Jennifer Aniston's picture on the cover sell really well.

They say you can't go wrong putting a pretty girl or a baby on a magazine cover.

By the way, I think the chief editor must have thrown a water bottle at, not on, the editor.

Thanks a lot, CP.

And yes, the sentence is :"He threw a water bottle at me when I refused to do a Jennifer Aniston cover!"

You already knew that, that's amazing.
