'covered' bridge ...literally - a bridge whith an enclosed structure built over it (visualize a raised 'tunnel' spannig a river/stream) -
they are usually older and both bridge and 'cover' are make of wood.
Have you seen the movie "Bridges Of Madison County"?

'expense account'...any money spent is reimbursed/provided by the company and does not come 'out of pocket'
so..basically - 'free'..the speaker evidently began to order and eat more
without regard to cost and, as a result, gained weight.
