Hi teachers,
I am always confused about "reverse structure" sentences.
Would you explain the questions I have below?
Thanks a lot.
1. Any more than=
I wouldn't buy a Swedish car anymore than I'd drink Swedish wine.
Does it mean " I'd rather buy a Swedish car than I'd drink Swedish wine"?
2. I'd drink Swedish wine "before I'd buy a Swedish car".
= I'd drink Swedish wine "sooner than" I'd buy a Swedish car.
3
No sooner had I got home than the phone rang.=the phone rang as I got home or the phone was already ringing when I arrived home??? |

The first sentence means that you wouldn't buy a Swedish car OR drink Swedish wine.
The second one is correct.
And the third one just means that right after you got home the phone rang.
