Hi, everyone!

1)Would you like some more tea?
2)Would you like any more tea?

Are #1 and #2 the same in meaning? Or is there a subtle difference between them?

Hello Yoshi Pooh -

In 'common' usage - both seem to be used, and (by some) considered acceptable for your example.

However, if you are taking (sitting) an exam....

'some' would be marked as correct and 'any' would be incorrect -

'Would you like some more tea?' - 'I don't want any more tea.'

Do you have a copy of "Basic English Usage" by Michael Swan, (Oxford Univ. Press)? Quite helpful...for the somewhat difficult use of some/any in various cases.

Hi, Philo

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, I don't have the book, but I think it'll be available at the library. I'll check it first thing tomorrow morning.
