In your native speaker view, is the quote not awkward?
Especially for me, 'see lead' is awkward and 'for' in the bold seems not necessary.
Could you tell your opinion on my thought in native speakers view?

The "see lead" is fine, but the "for" should be omitted.
I would like to see X lead the country. Which candidate would you like to see lead the country?
