Hi,

What does 'quiet intensity' mean? Does it mean something that is going to happen and before happening, it is covered by unusual quiettness? (Only a wild guess Smile )

Could you please put this phrase in a sentence?

Thank you very much for your help.

Leslie

Where did you see / hear the phrase?

At first blush, I would say it describes someone who is focused / concentrated on a particular person or goal, without saying much about it.

Thank you, CP.

In fact, the first time I ran into the term from The Weepies' lyrics of Painting by Chagall. Quoted as below:

Quote:
Painting by Chagall

Thunder rumbles in the distance, a quiet intensity
I am willful, your insistence is tugging at the best of me
You're the moon, I'm the water
You're Mars, calling up Neptune's daughter

I googled for this term and found a few without explanations, but now after reading your post, I find some of them are quite similar to your explanation. I'll list a few below: (Quoted as below)

Quote:
1. Josh Lucas: with his feet-on-the-ground attitude and quiet intensity, its hard to imagine Josh Lucas couldnt succeed at anything he set his mind tobe it

Quote:
2. On Sunshine Barato, the Mosquitos perform their work with a quiet intensity and an eerie precision,...

Quote:
3. He has what I call a quiet intensity - he really does believe in and has practical experience in the issues he's talking about.

Now my question is what 'quiet intensity' means in the lyrics and in the other examples?

Thank you once again.

Leslie

Song lyrics and poetry often have phrases that are difficult to explain or define precisely. They are open to interpretation, and may mean different things to you at different times.

In this song, if "quiet intensity" refers to the thunder (as it seems to do), then maybe it means that it is not loud because it is far off, but it is intense anyway, strong and maybe even threatening.

It also fits in with the image of the Moon's gravity tugging at the tides, quietly but intensely, making the water ebb and flow all around the world from thousands of miles off.
