Quote:
If news of a scandal breaks out, the giant corporation is likely to get a light slap on the wrist and a stern warning that things would have been worse if Samsung wasn't such an important contributor to the South Korean economy.

Does the quote make sense?
I think the below is right rather than the quote. But I'm not sure.
Can you tell me if I'm right?

Thanks.

-the below-
If news of a scandal breaks out, the giant corporation is likely to get a light slap on the wrist, while it is likely to get a stern warning that things would have been worse if Samsung wasn't such an important contributor to the South Korean economy.

Yes, the first quote makes sense grammatically. And, sorry, no. Your rewrite is not grammatically correct.
For the first sentence, break it down into its core sentence:
...the giant corporation is likely to get a ... slap ... and a ... warning...
That's it. From there you can see the subject, verb, predicate, and modifiers. Adding a while is unnecessary and disrupts the intent of the original sentence.
