As a paper boy, Buffett delivered two rival papers, so that even when customers canceled one of the subscriptions, he could still make a ____ from the other.
A. living B. profit
I think both collocations are right in this situation.

I agree that both are correct for sentence structure. But when I consider the context, I would choose "profit." As a boy, Buffett was not likely working to support himself, which is what "make a living" means. No matter what his age, he could be "making a profit" from his paper deliveries.
That's an interesting fact! Warren Buffett has obviously always had a good sense of how to be financially successful. |
