Does the quote make sense?

I think that 'defeat' means 'losing'. So I'm wondering why Ghana celebrated its losing?

Can you make my wondering clear?

It would have been better if it had been written

Ghana celebrated its victory over Guinea in the opening match of the Africa Cup tournament.

or

Ghana victoriously celebrated its defeat of Guinea in the opening match of the Africa Cup tournament.
