Hi,

What do 'honor' and 'justify' mean in the following sentences? Could you please paraphrase these sentences in easier English? Thank you in advance.

When does the new prices take effect and how long will you honor the old prices because we have to inform our clients.

The increase of about 30% is very difficult to justify in an already tough market.

Hi Leslie,

The sentences are already fairly well-structured.

When does the new prices take effect and how long will you honor the old prices because we have to inform our clients.
Honor in this context means "to accept."

When do the new prices take effect and how long will you honor the old prices? Our clients need this information.

The increase of about 30% is very difficult to justify in an already tough market.
Justify in this context means "to give a good reason for."

A 30% increase is difficult to justify in this tough market.

Thank you very much. However, I still don't understand.
Why 'accept'? If there is a new price, what does it mean to accept the old prices? Could you make an example?

Hi Leslie,

When you raise the price of an item, the old price is often honored (grandfathered) for a short period because it was advertised at an old known price. Also, in the interest of customer relations, preferred customers often get the old price during a transitional period. The company would "accept" the old price for a short period.
