Hi,
I just watched a film and there're some expressions I don't know. Could anyone help the blue parts?
1. See you in the blues. Does it mean 'goodbye'?
2. all right, we'll pick 5 players to follow, maybe 6, interview them here, you know the heart warming stuff with their families. Grab some b-roll of them at practice, and we'll fly you out to iceland to track em for the network there. (It's a TV network officer talks to his staff about interview of hockyplayers.)
What is Grab some b-roll of them?
Many thanks in advance.

Well "see you in the blues" may have differents readings. It depends on the whole meaning. It could mean: You are going to have troubles.
Or: It's not going to be funny.
As a goodbye the meaning could be: We'll meet in the heart of the matter which is not going yo be easy.
Grab some b-roll of them at practice, For me this would mean: Lets them play for a moment.
Or: whatch them play.
What do you think?

When you are merging two images (in visual effects) the a- roll is the outgoing image and the b- roll is the incoming image.
So it's tv/film technical jargon.
The blues may mean Blue (i.e. pornographic) movies |

B-roll refers to a roll of film. Your A-roll is your main film or video of your subject. B-roll is extra video or pictures you splice into your final edit.
For example, suppose you were making a video of an interview of an athlete. Your A-roll is your interview. But a constant image of the person just talking can be visually boring. So you take b-roll video of the person playing or practicing. This gets edited into the final video. So while the person or interviewer is talking, you can show video of the person in action. |
