Quote:
1.This would necessitate interviewing all members of staff.
2.The rise in prices nedcessitates greater thrift.
3.This plan necessitates borrowing some money.
4.Lack of money necessitated a change of plan.

Two questions:

1.Can 'necessitate' in the examples #1 through #4 be replaced with 'need'?
2.Which one is more prefered among native speakers, 'necessitate' or 'need'?

Thanks.

Hello !

I think there is no problem to replace need in these sentences.

Need is also more in use than necessitate

Hello -

'require' would be okay in your examples.

You will not be able to use 'need' unless the examples are re-written.

Hello again Philo !

Not la ville (Nice) wether I've been there and it's really "nice".
You are allright again, "required" it's better than needed or necessitated.

I wish I could help you with french.

Very Happy

Require works fine in all these sentences, but need doesn't work in any of them.
