In the complex and technological society that the United States has become, each member must fulfill a number of personal and occupational role and be in contact with many other members. ______, viewing children as necessary members of society means that they are regarded more as people in their own right than those of subordination.

Which one is more suitable? Why???

It means in addition, or as well. It is used here to introduce an addtional idea. |

Could I choose Therefore instead?
"each member must fulfill a number of personal and occupational role and be in contact with many other members" is the cause.
"viewing children as necessary members of society" is the result.
Am i right?
