Before I check the dictionary, I will say that to me, wiggle means move back and forth, while wriggle means move in all different directions.
You might wiggle into a tight pair of jeans, but you might have to wriggle a lot to get out of a tight hold when wrestling with a friend.
If you make a very detailed explanation of something, you might not have much wiggle room when someone closely questions you. If you really need to explain yourself, you might have to wriggle out of the spot you're in.
