What do the following proverbs mean?

1.Blood is thicker than water.
2.Beggers can't be choosers.

1. Family ties are stronger than other connections.

2. If a person cannot afford it himself, but has to accept what others give him, he cannot be too choosy. Often used more metaphorically. If Joe is not very attractive to the ladies, and most girls won't date him or dance with him, then one rather undesirable girl accepts his invitations, we might say, beggars can't be choosers. She's not very attractive, but Joe can't be too choosy, because all the other girls reject him.
