I want to know the exact meaning of "board" in the following sentences.

Peter tiptoed towards his brother Frank's hiding place. ------ He felt as if a host of cautious feet were moving in his direction from a distance. But fortunately nobody showed up. Hi Jays,
It probably means floor boards, or hardwood floors. Old hardwood floors tend to squeak as you walk on them; thereby, revealing your presence. But on barefoot, you would be less noticeable.
