In those days, it was also a common practice to steal women from worth on a neighboring village.

What does "from worth" in this sentence mean?

Thanks

I have no idea. Are you sure it wasn't something like, "In those days, it was also a common practice to steal women of worth from a neighboring village."? At least that one would makes sense.

I agree with Lorikeet. I don't know where you got this sentence but it doesn't make sense. I have never heard "from worth".

Thanks

"In those days, it was also a common practice to steal women of worth from a neighboring village."

To me it's still a little strange, but it seems to mean they stole women who were worth something; maybe they were good cooks, or knew how to weave, could take care of sick people, or something like that.
