Hello ww0395
Id say the following
Quote:
1. The thumb is the part of the body that _____ human being _____ other animals.
(A) tells, from (B) distinguishes, from
The answer is (B), but why not (A)?

Tell and say are used to refer to information that have been provided orally.
(1.1) The stewardes said, Have a niece day
(1.2) He told me to leave inmediately.

distinguishes is used to differentiate between two different things.

Quote:
2. The Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is an occasion to celebrate the year's
harvest, _____ Thanksgiving in America.
(A) like (B) such as
The answer is (A), but why not (B)?

Like is used to compare two things.
(2.1) One bee looks like the other.
such as is used to refer to examples:
(2.1) Fruits are edible plants such cherries, peaches and apples.

Quote:
3. During his first voyage, he _____ a storm.
(A) gets caught in (B) gets involved in
The answer is (A), but why not (B)?

Perfectly honest I dont know. As far as I can see get caught in a storm is an idiom that can not be expressed otherwise. To me "involved" has a sense of doing something voluntarily.

Hope it helps Confused
David
