A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months, he had _1___ a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.
A. wanted B. admired
...
When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had __2___ it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. As he read those words, a car key _3__ from an envelope taped behind the Bible.
2. A. put B. seen C. left
3. A. fell B. dropped

Could any native tell me the best choice and YOUR REASON why you don't choose the other one(s)?

thanks

Jason

Definitely B. admired
"wanted" wouldn't make a lot of sense in combination with "in"."He wanted a beautiful car in a showroom." Unlikely. I'm sure he wants to drive the car.

I'd say 2.C left but I'm not sure. It would help to see the missing part of the text. "Put" is more common with locations than expressions explaining how something is. But here "put" relates to "as" and "as" is used to explain how something is. It doesn't refer to location. I could accept "seen" but would understand it to emphazise the fact that he sees the Bible again. Compare:
"She was the true love of his live but she never saw him again?"
I'd go for C.left. I would understand this to mean that the Bible has not changed since then. Which seems to be the case as it is still new.
Still, I'd have to read to missing fragment to be sure. Send me the whole text and I will check.
For question 3 I'd take "fell". I understand "fell" to imply the notion of involuntarity and accident.
"He fell down the stairs"
"Dropped" on the other hand requieres an agent and can imply the notion of intention.
"Don't drop the eggs!"
"He dropped the keys."
Does that help?
