Hi,
Here is a qutoe from "the notebook".
"It's beatiful here in the low country."
Can anyone tell me what the low country means? How is it different from just the country?
Thanks. _________________ Best regards

Hi
Quoted Oxford Advanced learners's Dictionary as saying:
the Low Countries noun [pl.] the region of Europe which consists of the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
So the 'the low country' in your example, might be the one of them(the Low Countries). |

Specifically the Netherlands I'd say. The Dutch refer to their own country as "Nederland", which literally means "low country" on account of the absence of mountains and that a large part of the country lies under the sea level.
