Yes, it does; but I would substitute 'handled' for 'had' and 'before' with "now"
'Do you know where you put the book you had just now.'
'handled' implies that something big and complex is being dealt with. A situation, a car, a machine or an animal, not something as straightforfward as a book.
'just now' refers to the time just pefore the present and can be used with present perfect and simple past. Compare:
1. 'I have seen him just now and he told me he will come immediately.'
2. 'I saw Jane just now. She looked OK.'
'just before' can be used the same way for speaking abou the past.
3. 'He received the letter just before ce came here'. That was two days ago.'
4. They had left just before he arrived. That's why he had to stay in a hotel.
