It is short for "emotion" or "emotional," I believe, and describes a particular style of dress / hair / life that some young people adhere to. Black, tight-fitting clothing, black hair (dyed and straightened if necessary), cut to droop over one eye, black eyeliner on boys and girls, inability to smile when the camera clicks, penchant for tattoos and piercing and punk rock, despairingly trapped in teen angst . . . you know, Emo!

Nobody understands Emo people. That's part of it. Nobody understands!

Try typing "emo" into Google Images and see what you get.

Peter Parker becomes emo in Spiderman three when he's affected by the symbiote ... when we see him go to the jazz club.

The character Jo Jo in 'Horton Hears a Who' is emo too.
