Hi,
I get confused with the pronunciation of the word spelling.
In present tense, it's "spell", with one L sound. In progressive tense, ing is added. So, besides the one L sound, we should add an "ing" sound, right?
In other words, it has one L sound, not two. Because "L" sound can link with "ing" sound, it should sound like "spe-lling". I mean, sounds like, not spell as.
But many people say it as spel-ling, with two L sounds: First, they say "spel"; then, "ling". I don't know why.
Which one is correct?
The same problem occurs in the word cellular.
Thank you in advence for you help. |

Because when people are speaking at native level speed, you should not hear the difference.
One "L" sound vs. two "L" sound? I haven't heard of that before. _________________ "It is impossible to speak in such a way that you cannot be misunderstood." -- Karl Popper |
