I don't understand the following expression from the grammer book.
Can you please paraphrase the expression in easy English? Question
He is the Newton of the age.

Newton (Sir Isaac Newton) is most famous for discovering or explaining gravity. More about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Newton

Newton was very important to science and society during the time he was alive.

The person in your sentence is being described as equaly important. He is as important today (the age) as Newton was during his time.

A paraphrase could be: He is very important in current times.

Hope this helps!
