"It is not always easy to understand just how large or small something is. For example, can you imagine how small the state of Rhode Island is if you are told that it covers twelve hundred square miles? And can you imagine just how large Texas is? It helps to compare one with the other. Then you'll get a better idea of how small Rhode Island is. In fact, more than 220 states the size of Rhode Island could fit into the state of Texas. But the best way is to visit Rhode Island. You'll find that you can drive across the longest part of the state in about an hour and a half."
1. In the above passage, "Actually" can be used instead of "In fact"?
2. If #1 can be, the meaning between them are the same? |

1. No, it would sound awkward. Actually is preferably used to reveal new or surprising information, something you did not expect from the previous information. In the example above, the sentences before "In fact" have the same idea as the sentence with "In fact", so Actually doesn't quite fit. _________________ "It is impossible to speak in such a way that you cannot be misunderstood." -- Karl Popper |
