1.Why don't you go on a picnic?
2.Why don't you not go on a picnic? |
I know #1 is used to offer to go on a picnic.
Then, #2 can be used to offer not to go on a picnic?
If not, what's the negative sentence of #1?
Thanks. |

The grammar form of #2 is fine but would be used to offer an alternative option. For example:
A: I'm going to the gym today.
B: I thought you hurt your leg yesterday?
A: I did. It still hurts.
B: So, why don't you not go to the gym today? Give your leg a rest. _________________ "It is impossible to speak in such a way that you cannot be misunderstood." -- Karl Popper |
