| French universities are full of bright, dedicated students. However, most of them are devoted to subjects that will not land them a decent job after graduation or help them compete internationally. |
I saw the quote in some newspaper. In the quote, 'land them a decent job' seems incorrect grammatically. I think that 'land them in a decent job' is correct instead.
Could you tell me if my opinion is right or wrong?
Thanks. |

When a person lands a job, it means he or she gets hired to do that job. It usually means it is a good job. You wouldn't expect someone to say, "I landed a job as a dishwasher," although it wouldn't be wrong exactly. More likely: "I landed a great job managing a big hotel, with a big salary and lots of benefits. Let's celebrate."
The quoted material is just saying that the students are not studying the subjects that will help them get good jobs. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
