I couldn't understand this sentence.
Few of his fellow-musicians would have exclaimed, with Haydn, "If I could only impress on the soul of every music-lover, how inimitable are Mozart's works, how profound, how musically intelligent, how extraordinarily sensitive, the nations would compete to possess such a jewel within their borders." |

Here is a paraphrase:
Although Haydn believed (or said) this, not many other musicians at the time would have agreed. Hayden would say (or at least agree) that any country would fight to have Mozart come live there, if only Haydn could explain to people how unique, how deep, how intelligent, how sensitive Mozart's music is. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
