(1) Apple is my favorite.
(2) Apples are my favorite.
(2) My favotite food is apples.
Q: Which is right? Do not know whether the word "apple" in the sentence has to be singular or plural.

The last two are correct. The first would only be correct if "apple" was being used as an adjective, e.g.
Of all types of juice, apple is my favourite. |
