Hi,
I'd like to know the word for the following descritipn.
a creation / a re-writing based on the same characters of certain drama / play / novels, etc but the plot has nothing similar to the original one, let's say, the re-creation is totally of its own life and plot. The only similiarity is the names of the characters.
I find 'adaption' is a bit different from what I just desribed. Is it ok to use 'derivates'? or I just use 're-creation' or 're-writing'? But it seems that re-creation or re-wrting is just using different wording for the similar story. Or, is it my misunderstanding for both words?
Back to the point, what is the word for a totally new creation based on some work of art?
Thank you very much to enlighten me.

I don't know the technical term, or even if there is one, but sometimes characters in original movies are drawn from books, plays, etc. The credits might indicate it by:
Characters based on the novel Drop a Dime by Ralph Lunch.
or
Based on characters created by Ralph Lunch. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
