Hello, and welcome. Idioms exist in most languages. They are words, phrases, or expressions that are not to be taken literally, but instead hold some sort of figurative meaning. English has thousands of idioms. Here are a few examples:
to have an ax to grind - to have a complaint
drive (someone) nuts - to annoy someone
to shoot (oneself) in the foot - to make a situation more difficult for oneself
to only touch the tip of the iceberg - to only discuss the simple parts of a very large and difficult problem
a piece of cake - an easy task |
